Content Focus: Early Exploration of North America

Workshop 1

Don't be fooled! The Silk Road wasn't a road made out of silk. This workshop will take you on an adventure across the Gobi Desert and Pamir Mountains as you explore the motivation behind trading valuable goods like silk, precious stones, tea and spices despite the dangers they faced along the way.

Workshop 2

We've all heard about the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus. But do you know the REAL story leading up to his famous journey in 1492? This workshop dives into the motivation behind establishing a new maritime trade route across the Atlantic and how this trade route positively and negatively affected certain cultures.

Workshop 3

God, gold, glory!

France, Spain and England were racing for all three of these motives as they explored the "New World" we now call the Americas. This workshop will take you on a journey from past to present as you explore the evidence of how these countries made a lasting effect on the American culture today.

Workshop 4

Ever wonder how early explorers found their way around the world without a GPS?!? This workshop will explore the navigation tools that assisted these daring people as they explored uncharted territories. Compasses, astrolabes, caravel ships, hourglasses and quadrants are just a few tools we'll learn about and explore ourselves!
